Senegal Kaleidoscope Itinerary

Day 1 Sunday: Board
your evening transatlantic flight.
Day 2 Monday:
Arrive Dakar in the morning and you will be met at the airport and transferred to the first class centrally located Novotel Dakar. The remainder of the day will be at leisure to rest from your overnight flight.
Day 3 Tuesday: City
Tour. Depart from your hotel to explore this vibrant city. Pass Kermel flower market, the
main government buildings, the Presidential Palace, visit the Ifan Museum, the Sandaga
Market, stop at the Grand Mosque then Dakar University and ending at the Soumbedioune
Artisan's Market where high quality goods can be admired and purchased. (B)
Day 4 Wednesday: Goree Island. A twenty-minute
ferry ride takes you to the once turbulent historical site. Lunch on the island before
visiting the House of Slaves. This was the departure point of millions headed for slavery
in the Americas. A visit to Goree is an emotional and haunting experience. (B, L)
Day 5 Thursday: Pink Lake. After breakfast depart
Dakar for the mysterious Pink Lake. You will pass through the colorful towns of Pikine,
Thiaroye and Niayes before arriving at this incredible rose colored body of water known as
Pink Lake.
Take a tour of the lake and view the women harvesting
salt as they wade into the shallow waters. Enjoy a special Senegalese lunch before return
to Dakar. (B, L)
Day 6 - Friday: After
breakfast depart on your two-hour drive south to the endless beaches of the Little Coast.
This beautiful resort area extends over a green park of more than 1,580 acres and includes
swimming pools, horse stables, a deep sea fishing center, shops and miles of white sand
beaches. Lunch at one of the resorts with some time left to walk the beaches, visit a
fishing village, take a dip in the pool or a swim in the ocean. Return to Dakar late
afternoon.
Day 7 Saturday: Tour to Touba. After breakfast
depart for the Holy City of Mouridism. Pass the villages of Khombole, Bambey, Diourbel and
Mbacke before arriving in Touba. Visit the Grand Mosque of Touba - without a doubt the
largest and most beautiful in West Africa. It was founded by the "father of
Mouridism" the venerable Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba. Next visit the Library and the
residence of the "Calife de Touba". Here you will experience the interesting
story of the life and visions of the founder of Mouridism. Return to Dakar early evening.

Day 8 Sunday: Early morning
transfer to the airport and assistance with check in and customs. Arrive New York in the morning. |
